Re: [bolger] Re: bigger,better,bantam

Just down the road from me. I'm in Dunedin which is
just north of Clearwater. Have fun while you are
here.

Sounds very promising John,

We're renting in Largo (near Tampa) this winter. Will she be
available for a few days?

Would you like to visit and try Seagull and Sport Dory? Our Mobile
Home Park is directly on the Inter Coastal, and there's a few decent
pubs in rowing distance! I'll put some Florida Pinks and a few Stone
Crabs on the Barbie anytime.

Sounds very promising, John. My Bantam construction is stalled until
I can get the insulation into the shop ceiling - winter is getting
serious - my cousin was driving his truck around on the creek
yesterday. Your note got me so excited that I ran out to the shop and
cut the nose off the centre hull, a step so unatural that I had been
putting it off. I should have known, it worked exactly the way Mr.
Bolger designed it to.

Will the Pelican be up for hire this winter?

Thanks for the update, keep them coming

<My Bantam stretch in nearing completion, six feet longer, hulls
rockered above the waterline. I expect to paint in a couple of days
and relaunch within the week. I n ow have a rear cockpit which is
8feet by 9feet but later plan to steal 4 feet of that for more cabin
space. She looks good esthetically and having already cruised 120
miles with just the center hull stretched can say she performs much
better as a displacement boat. Before i was limited to 4or5 mph withj
mu 9.9 as the truncated transom would begin to pull a following
wave. After extending just the center hull i can now pick up about
2mph at low revs with less wake, just feels more rewarding. the boat
is also less affected by weight trim. Two bonuses are quieter
because the motor is 30 percent further away and will run shallower
because the transom\water line interface is higher. i was able to
raise the motor almot 6 inches and can now run in 14 inches. After
the test with just the center hull stretched i started on the two
side hulls and connecting deck. now ive got the room and expect even
more flotation aft. When corresponding with Mr. Bolger i initially
mentioned a 4 foot stretch but when i had the plywoood in front of me
the devil made m e draw it out an extra 2 feet, hope i dont inc ur
any problems. I will state here that in the past when i have
deviated from his plans I WAS WRONG TO DO SO! and paid the price, but
thats another story. Hope springs eternal, so far 6 feet seems good.
Will post pics and a full review soon. But once again, what a great

I can't seem to find anything in the Photo section of Bolger2 as
described below. I would very much like to see the article. I have
purchased a set of plans and laid saw to wood. I am a slow builder,
but so far I have the main hull bulkheads built, the sides in one
piece and am ready to join the sides on the main hull. Wish we could
come up with a jazzier name, though.

While I was at the Kingston Messabout I met John Bartlett who gave me
a copy of the MAIB article concerning Bolger's Bantam Upgrade. I
have posted it on Bolger2 Photo section.

Is it possible to access the "full size" scan from the photo section?
At the bottom of the screen, it says Thumbnail:1 KB, Screen Size: 33
KB, Full Size 1224 KB. At screen size, the text is illegible, and it
would be nice to read the writeup.
