save my friend from mediocrity

A friend is thinking about getting a skiff or runabout with maybe a 30
horse motor to take his wife and kids around Salem harbor (near Boston)
and nearby islands etc. on good days. Probably has to deal with moderate
chop. I'd steer him towards Katie but he is not a handyman type and he
plans to keep the boat on a mooring, so I think maintenance on that nice
wood would be too much. I think he'd be better off with a displacement
or semi-displacement hull and moderate power. I think I already
mentioned finding a sailboat with a trashed rig but I don't think he's
going to go for that. I persuaded him to get a rowboat once but it was a
bit heavy and he's not much of an oarsman, though I think if he could
always get me to row he would be ok with it. Any suggestions? I'd look
thru MAIB but I am temporarily doing without it as an economy measure
until I'm employed again.

BTW, he wants to get rid of his heavy pram so if anyone does a little
fixit they can get a pram that I think carries 3 adults ok for the
trouble of picking it up in Salem, MA. My guess is it weighs 150 lbs and
I think it is maybe 10 feet long. Could probably take a small motor. I
seem to recall it has a daggerboard trunk but no sailing bits.
