I suspect that they've become quite addicted to the current pricing. Georgia Pacific and Durango both closed sawmills in my area recently, both of which produced some ply and board products. Reduce the supply, jack up the price, lose about 1200 salaries...sounds like fat profit city to me.

I'll be upset if I don't start seeing a few new Teals in the news from
there! Send some to the newly wetted swamps.

Probably better, too. Not that the Bushies would buy from France.
In that case, any effect on the US ply market would be evidence of
globalization, and even mentioning that could get a group like this
in trouble.

The last I checked, 1/4" AC fir plywood was holding steady at about CDN$25/sheet

Plywood prices have tripled in the last few months. They blame it on
strong housing starts plus forest fires and now a hurricane. It has
been enough to get Georgia-Pacific's stock price out of the cellar.
Some small stores around here have quit stocking plywood because of
price. The big chains have contracts and the plywood is going to
them. Does anyone have a guess as to how long it will take for
prices to settle back down?
