Re: Bantam stretch

I'm glad to hear the stretch works so well, since I'm building the
same hull 8-). How about posting a few photos? I have to decide
whether to build the extended cabin, which was my original intent, or
to go with the extended aft deck. Enjoy your cruising, that's the
dream that is driving my build.

Been out on the beautiful Indian River, Fl. the last 3 days trying to
get the motor height right on the new 6 foot addition to my
Bantam. Its not quite right yet so ive dropped it another inch and
will try again tomorrow but already im very, very pleased. After
coomunicating with mr Bolger about the low power handling of the
boat he suggested a rockered addition to the stern which would bring
the transoms above the waterline for less wake and easier
displacement driving. the added room aboard was also an
incentive.Previously the eddy-wake caused by the 8 inch deep main
transom seemed to limit sp[eed. she was very efficient 20mpg at 5mph
and 2,000 rpm on my yamaha 9.9. However when i added power she just
didnt want want to drag all that water. The boat was designed to
plane and the 9,9 wont plane her loaded. well now i started by adding
the 6 foot stretch to the main hull and remounted the engine and
couldnt wait to relaunch. Now she really romps, my effortless
averaghe speed seems a couple of knots faster and shell just keep
going. i also get shallower running by raising the engine, quieter,
the motor is further aft and less susceptible to trim changes and
load, in short a bigger, better boat anmd i havent lenghthened the
outer hulls yet which will help even more. let me repeat how very
pleased i am. the boat in its original configuration was very good,
now i like it better. the cost has been minimal, 2 sjheets of ply,
o one gal of epoxy and $100 for a longer teleflex steering cable,
maybe $200 and i have stuff left over to help with the outriggers. Im
already using the boat again, took a week and planning a 100 mile
cruise later this week.I used a combination payson joint, outside,
but block inside to add the extra length and it faired in almost
invisibly with three staggered layers of 7 oz cloth. Bolger suggested
a 4 inch lift over 4feet and extrapolating that to 6 feet clears the
waterline by about an inch leaving a lovely smooth wake at speed.
