Bolger has drawn at least two small planing-speed cruising boats with
the central keel feature. However, they are 22' long and are therefore
much bigger projects than Hawkeye.

I'm thinking of the Fast Motorsailor and Retriever. There was a good
article about the Motorsailor in the June 1, 1999 issue of MAIB; the
picture on the cover shows the boat at 34 knots. Retriever was also
covered in MAIB (I don't have that issue at hand) as part of a series
of 4 22' boats. Retriever is intended to cruise at about 15 knots.

A nice project more in the size range that you are talking about is the
Bantam 16/20. This is actually a trimaran, but think of it as a home
built version of the cathedrahl bottom. Speed about 16 knots, 2 berths,
folding cabin. What more could you want?

I don't think that "Hawkeye" would be a very good place to start to arrive at
an enlarged "Microtrawler" - "Hawkeye" was conceived of as a deck-boat, so
its construction scheme is quite different and all the structure must sit
atop the deck, unlike "Microtrawler" which is designed make use of the keel
box. I can't see any major impediment to stretching the "Microtrawler"
design out by 4'. I'm not aware if Bolger has done so.

Question for everyone:

Most are familiar with step-sharpie hulled Micro Trawler, and it's larger
cousin Hawkeye (18
feet). My question for the day is, has Bolger done a cruising cabin version
for Hawkeye, essentially making it an enlarged Micro Trawler?
