The Tuma Catboat
The new MAIB has a nice article by John Tuma about the use of a vang
on his gaff cat. The vang was specified by PCB. Is this boat the
Spartina adaptation? It looks similar, but might be beamier. Strip
planked, I would guess.
There are a couple of things that I wouldn't ming having John address
in another article. He has a winch on the foredeck for raising the
mast and putting the final tune on the halyards. I would like to see
a picture of the mast tablernacle arrangement.
The most striking thing is the shortness of the mast. Bolger usually
has the mast extend up from the throat a fair ways in order to get a
good lead for the peak halyard. John's boat has the
shortest "topmast" I've ever seen on a gaff rig Bolger boat,
relatively speaking.
All in all, the sort of article one subscribes to MAIB for.
