Re: Catalogue Enquiry

I agree. It's a hoot to call him. Of course his stock answer is "Did you
read the plans?". Once Ma answered and said, "No, Harold's not here,
he's out on a joyride". I asked, "In a boat" (it was mid February), she
said; "No, one of his friends bought an old pickup."

But she was able to answer my question anyway.

If the website is giving you enough information, then of course you
don't need to spend $5 US for his catalog, but if you find a piece of
paper in your hand more to your liking (which I do) then:

"This is the first thing you should do. The catalog contains complete
study sheets on all of the instant boats, with 3 dimensional drawings
and a lot more detail than you see here. There are also several
additional boats. We often get asked for further detail. The answers
are in the catalog. Web sites are fine in their place, but there is
nothing quite like perusing these pages over the coffee table and
trying to decide which one of the instant boats you want to build.
Why wait any longer?" (quoted from Mr. Payson's website.)

The other sources of information that can be very helpful before
committing yourself to building one of Bolger's designs are this
website and Boats With an Open Mind. Both are invaluable in
determining if the design is appropriate for your intended use and
building skill level.

I would strongly recommend dealing with Mr. Payson - I've built three
boats from plans bought from him, have bought sails from him and have
dealt with him by phone, mail and in person. It has always been a
pleasure. To me he epitomizes yankee integrity and honesty.

Dynamite Payson has a catalogue.

I would like to hear what are your impressions of it?

Is it worth the price and what information does it provide that is
not already on his website?

Same with the CSD catalogue.

Can I assume that I am the only one without these catalogues - since
many people seem to feel that catalogues are essential to ordering
boat plans.
