Because of his slow seeming wit that suddenly explodes into brilliance on reflection!!

I read this somewhere, something about Bolger saying that Dynamite Payson at first meeting doesn't strike you as a particularly erudite or brilliantly minded person but when posed with a problem or asked his opinion on anything he generally comes up with the right solution faster than anybody else.

I hope this doesn't sound too insulting to Dynamite as I've got a great deal of respect for him and his abilities.

"Dynamite" trivia for you ......

Do you know why "Dynamite" Payson is called "Dynamite" ?
His boatshop is real fun inside. He used the same "logs" you see framing
the door for the frame and rafters. Very clever in the way he faired up
the top of the unevenly tapered and crooked rafters for the roofing. The
floor has about a million paint splatters in every imaginable color. I
can't recall the number now, but he built the whole shop on a very tight
budget, something like $32 sticks in my mind, anyway it was a very low
cost structure....
