As long as the car has real gutters, we can make it work. No problem.

I've been invited to speak on preserving monuments at the US Army
Corrosion Conference in Cocoa Beach this Feb. So the trip is on the
company dime.
Then in March, the Corrosion Engineer convention i9s in New Orleans.
Which is almost in Chuck the Duck's backyard (only a 1000 kilometers
further). So we'll pop over and see what he's got on the ways.
I'm satisfied that with my roof racks and whatever tricks Johgn Bell
has up his sleev (multiple rolls of duct tape perhaps) we'll get them
up there safely.
Getting them back will be trickier.

Dreaming of rowing 20 miles a day to John's Pass Bar for a Sammy
Adams and emerging from his winter hibernation a lean, mean, rowing
machine!
Just a Suggestion --- Ask a furniture mover the cost to move a boats . They
just lash them to the trailer doors . It may not be too costly , and much
safer or --- Maybe even rent a U haul .

Geeeeezzz!
We put "Twisted Seagull" on top of the '82 Olds Omega today and it's
BIG! It's longer than the car. If you wish to see ahead while driving
it's nessesary to slide it back so far that the stern is a foot or so
past the rear bumper, which leaves the stem even with the front
bumper.
That's upside down of course.
Right side up, it looks like I could nestle the Sport Dory inside,
but even alone, it looks like it wants to take off and fly! Add 15
feet of dory and it might be Flying Nun time! Also the roof racks
aren't the stiffest thing I've seen. With the weight in the centre
they sag down, almost to the roof of the car. Upside down, the
gunwales are near the supports for the racks and everything looks
more secure.
I'm thinking I'll have to drive the Seagull to Tampa solo. Then go
back to Atlanta and get the Sport Dory.
Any suggestions.

Bruce,
Rest assured we can get boat boats on top of your car. You are talking to a
guy that spent every day of a ten year period with at least one boat, and
often with three or more on the roof of his car.
Does your car have conventional gutters? If it does, I've got just the thing
to load both boats up, a set of aluminum Quick n' Easy brackets. We'll just
bolt a couple of 2x4s of an appropriate length to them, and away you go.
You'll have a couple of lumps on your head by the time you get to Florida,
but they'll heal soon enough!
Don't bother with the plywood, ok? We'll make it work.

I want to be able to row in company with my wife.....
I was thinking about bolting or screwing a piece of plywood crossways
(8 foot wide) to the roof racks and screwing some cleats to the 1"
MDO for flexability in tying the suckers down.
We'd have to watch our noggins entering and exiting the Olds. But
after a few bonks we should get used to it.

Presuming weight and strength of carrier not a problem... I think Sue
Davis was considering a side to side carrying of her two Mouses. I've
seen this done with kayaks but nothing as big as your dories.
Bryant - who carries a much shorter boat on a much longer station
wagon
