Re: fast brick
I can only dream of reaching your level of finish. Really good
job! I know there might be some areas that are not just perfect,
but it does look good. Can't wait to get a report on performance
from rowing, sail and power.
p.s. how come no telescope mount?
cheers.

Hello Mark,
website yet, so the latest page is still this one:
http://www.kolbsadventures.com/fastbrick_8.htm
The outer sides, box cutwater, and transom have been faired, sanded,
and are ready for paint. The interior sides are also ready for
paint, but the interior floor, aft bulkhead, and inside transom still
need some sanding and fairing. Those surfaces should be done this
weekend. What's taking so long is glassing the bulkhead and inside
transom after the decision was made to glass all interior (especially
fir) surfaces. I should have done these panels before assembly.
Glassing small interior surfaces like the bulkhead and transom take
just as much time as larger surfaces since after you get some epoxy
on them you can't sand anything nearby until the next day.
The mast has been laminated and just needs to be shaped and
finished. The yard and boom are also ready for finishing. Risers
for the rowing thwart are installed, including a second set aft for
use when handling the motor tiller. Since my boat is the 12'
version, there's still plenty of room inside with the thwart mounted
aft. The thwart itself has been filled with foam, sealed with epoxy,
and just needs a little sanding touch-up before painting. The rudder
and tiller pieces have been sealed with epoxy and are ready for
paint, but I don't yet have the rudder blade from my local
machinist. The leeboard is cut to shape, but still needs fairing of
the edges - I'm saving it for last since I doubt I'll have the sail
ready before the reservoir freezes.
I'm trying to get everything ready for paint at the same time, and
spend a couple of weekends not running the generator or making clouds
of dust for a change. The Long Dory and Toto projects, running
simultaneously with FastBrick, are on track to also be ready for
paint at the same time. New photos of the dory also need to be
uploaded.

does any body know where I can view a so called fast brick? I have
just cut out the pieces for a pointy skiff and will complete it ,
but I just acquired an albin 25 and the pointy skiff will be to
large for davits. A brick may be perfect, but I would like to power
it and i have seen the fast brick/lifeboat mentioned. so far I have
built diablo, tortoise, brick, big dory pointy skiff and tennessee.
thanx jack curley
