Re: [bolger] bedding polycarbonate

Be careful what you use, Fritz. I had to take windows out, and found the
compound I had used was stronger than the wood (good quality BS 1088 marine
ply) to which the polycarbonate was all too firmly attached. If on the other
hand you are seeking permanence I can look at the tube and see what the
brand name was :)

Wow, that is some serious
polycarbonate! What boat
are you putting it in?

Asking Phil Bolger would
probably be worthwhile.

I put my polycarbonate in
place by screwing it to
a wood casing strip, and
waterproofed the joint
with silicone adhesive.

I bet that the wood you
are attaching that 1/2"
polycarbonate to is the
weak link in the system
by an order of magnitude.
I have ordered the polycarbonate for my windows, six 4 X 8 sheets of
1/2". I asked the salesman what he recommended as a sealant and he
said silicone. I have read elsewhere that the only use for silicone
on a boat is to seal plastic windows but I had planned to use Sika
295 or 296, products designed for bedding plastics. I figured a
purpose designed product was better. Any thoughts, experience?
