[bolger] Re: WDJ mast adjustment?
Jack, I shortened my masts only 12 inches because I shared your concerns
about the effect of shortening on leverage and the sail plan. 12 inches has
not noticeably affected peak halyard leverage. I worried that jib would be
tilted aft to the point where the aft end of the jib boom would fail to
clear the main tabernacle. But that didn't happen and also, there was still
sufficient hoist for the staysail. So, the original sail plan still fits.
Someday I may remove another four inches from the masts.
Phil and Susanne are more concerned about my privacy than I am. I'm a
long way from being tired of discussing this boat.

adavantage of your attention. Phil and Susanne strive to protect you from
harrasment in the closing credits to "William D. Jochems, Man and Boat".
However, I can't resist at least one question to you. In the letter
accompanying my WDJ plans Phil advised me to make masts 12 to 16 inches
shorter than plans. In the video he says you shortened them by 24 inches to
reduce tenderness. Were you able to do this without changing the sail plan?
Is hoisting leverage affected? (technically I guess that's two questions).
