Re: Re: old shoe pseudo navigator? (& OLDSHOE yahoogroup)
All you folks wating for the warm weather to come and
thaw out the barn so you can continue with the
building.
Hey!! Send me some of that cool weather. It's so
hot in the Phils that I have to take the boat out
really far from land to get the cooooooling breezes.
It's hard for me to put up with the light breezes and
warm water inland. I'll just have to drink another
cool glass of tuba and keep my hand on the tiller
while the chop slaps the bottom of the hull and the
tropical islands drift by.
"Edna, wipe the sweat off my forehead "pallyhug".
"Salamat!"
All of you out there in the cold hinterland. Even
if you win the rat race. Youre still a rat!
Yes I'm rubbing it in.
My wish for all of you is that you find your
paradise, where winds are always fair, maidens are
always beautiful and life is the best it can be.
Don't think about it. Live youre dream. Small
boats are God's answer to boredome.
To coin a phrase: "Just do it!"
Steve.

front porch at the moment, awaiting the arrival of warmer weather so
that I can install the deck and get her in commission. I have some
construction photos over on Bolger3, and should really get around
to taking newer ones now that I have her faired and primed.

Your suggestion sounds fine too, and I'll second you for new

By the way there are 2 other Oldshoe related groups, both pretty
inactive, smaller though with public access, but don't have the rich
material reputedly archived in *the* Oldshoe group.

some Micro and some Oldshoe plans
now on eBay.

Reading between the lines, these
are probably old 'Common Sense'
plans, with unclear building rights.
Worth the $$$ for 'study plans' if
nothing else.

Basically it was about constructing a removeable top for OLDSHOE like
the one that is on SUPERMOUSE in BWAOM. A suggestion was to make it a
two-piece slot top, allowing one to walk upright the full length of
the boat. I also tried to join the OLDSHOE group at that time but
never got any response - that was about 6 months ago.
Also at that site is a note about a MICRO for sale. This may be the
best solution of all!

Some of Bolger's sail designs featured a removable cabin top. Can't
think of the names just now, Storm Petrel?
You could make something that bolts to the gunwales when you wanted
the cover, and could be left off for days sails.
I've also seen a clamp on cabin on a Jon boat, was it Devlin's Honker?

I would be interested in looking at the files and archives again, so
if anyone has success joining let us know. Heck, I would even be

Subject: [bolger] old shoe pseudo navigator?
I've built a couple of small boats but none with ballast, the time
has come. I have limited room for construction i.e. micro won't fit
plus i drive a tiny little subaru. I'm thinking hard about building
an old shoe with a bit of deck and a small pilothouse like the one
on the silver gull 19.
http://www.macnaughtongroup.com/silver_gull_19.htm
I want a relatively capable boat i don't have to pitch a tarp every
night and one that poor weather is'nt as much of an issue as in a
small open boat. I've seen micros but nary an old shoe, if you've
built or owned one i'd love to hear from you i have a few questions.
My other option is buliding a paradox but at 6' 2" and a large dog
that goes every where with me it's just too small. Besides i like
bolger lines and the two free flooding wells
I know the conversion is posible but is it feasible?
I know it's a major deveation from Mr. Bolger's plans but my garage
is small and i can't build it in my yard.
Thanks for any imput,
Jason Stancil
BTW i love lug rigs but on such a small boat i can't justify the
rigging of the navigator so i plan on keeping the sprit rig set up
for siplicity's sake.
