Probably running for their lives away from a herd of
hairy,snowblind,beer-stinking,cabin-fever-infected Canadians who
simply want to know,"Are ya a real blonde?" and "Can ya give the
handle a good pull and draw me another bucket-o-beer Olga?"

One of the few times I'm glad my prayers for a scratch and sniff
monitor have yet to granted........although I'm still waiting for a
REAL beer on tap hook-up exiting from the right side of my monitor:-)

Peter,Olaf The Evil" Lenihan, standing in line, with bucket in
hand, closely behind,"Loki The Fat", for either fresh beer or cooled
sweet,mead,en vrac!

Makes sense, after the Viking/beer thread; a band of marauding Bolgerites
descends on the hapless Texicans, bearing away their precious bandwidth....
but where are the women?

BTW Roger, we sacked their bandwidth within twenty minutes of the original

They don't.

It's being built in the same method as Bolger's Longship.

All plywood frames and plywood strakes.

Where the heck do they get the
'green' wood needed for steam
bending, [and clear wood for
planking], in Texas????

So many of the really beautiful
Bolger boats, Monhegan, for instance
are designed using 'green' white oak,
for steam bent ribs. Bolger does this
because that wood is available in New
England, [& east of the Missisippi].

Here in California, [and in Texas?],
'green' wood suitable for steam bending
is not available.

Saw cut ribs, or plywood frames,
[like w/Spur II] are our only reasonable
choice.
I've made contact with Thorgard (real name Mark) in San Antonio and
I'm going over to visit and help on the Longship project.

They have a Longship building weekend on the second weekend of each
month. It's not Bolger's plan, but based on Gaia (sp) a LS in a museum
in Denmark, I think. He took a lapstrake building course last year,
built a Nutshell Pram, then tackled a 40 foot Lonship. Gutsy. He is
the one who commisioned Bolger to draw up his LS and still owns the
plans and intends to build it one day. I'll bet studying Bolger's
plans helped him a lot.

Their LS is totally framed and they're now hanging the planking.
They've got the third one hung and might actually get her launched
this summer!

They accepted my offer to come help and I might take Chuck Leinweber
with me if I can drag him away from Duckworks for a weekend. Of course
we'll take photos and put up an article after. I plan on going for the
2nd. weekend in April.

Here's a link to their site, scroll down and click on progress. Then
click around the whole site, it's awesome.

Might have to join the SCA.

Here's a link to a Longship buiding group I stumbled across and
immeadiately joined:

We'll drive over.
