Re: Yet another reason to build boats....
IIRC Canada is still negotiating with the Turks and Caicos islands
with the idea that it becomes Canada's version of the US V.I.
As for Florida, Canada has historically always got the sticky end of
the stick when negotiating with the US over land. Ever wonder why
Skagway Alaska is so far down the West coast?

Great news Sue,
Now, all you have to do is figure out how to enjoy Canada's favorite
winter whine, "I wanna' go t;' Flodida!".
As for building space in TO try joining the reserves at HMCS Toronto
once you're a landed immigrant, they've got a nice big building, right
on the waterfront. An Insolent 60, properly crewed of course, will
just about double the RCN's fighting strength. Especially if crewed by
Peter Lenihan's rowdy and drunken Vechere gang all dressed as Vikings,
waving their trusty budgeons and screaming for more "aul".

Congrats Sue. Canada can certainly use another good software
engineer. And boatbuilder. Don't worry about that flag thing - once
you get here we'll fill you in on all the stuff you need to know,
show you the secret handshake, what Canadian bacon really is, where
we keep the GOOD beer, etc.
And I presume this means you're more likely to make Bruce's Kingston
Messabout?

Bravo, Susan; well done!
And you obviously interviewed in the sweet spot: between building projects,
so the epoxy clumps and smears of 5200 and the preoccupied vacant look (not
to mention the usual cuts and bruises) were temporarily in abeyance. Good
planning!
Don't forget to learn to say "eh" after everything, and learn which way
their flag is flown (this is apparently no small issue with Canadians
outside of Quebec). Report back to us Yanks on the REAL quality of their
beer, as I'm thinking most reports to date have been originating from those
local types and may be somewhat exaggerated.
Immigration Canada won't be a problem as long as you don't name names (some
of our Northern associates have long, and I fear, shady records....). Hey,
how tough can it be? Last week, in a moment of boredom coupled with hitting
a web site at pure random chance, I took the test for immigrating to
Britain. Results: according to those folks I appear to be a Useful Alien,
which suggests Alf mowing the lawn to me.... Woulda thought they'd have been
jampacked by now.....

I had a job interview on Wednesday with a software firm in Toronto.
At the end of the afternoon, my final interview was with the owner of
the company, whose final question for me was what I liked to do in my
spare time. So I told him about the Mouseboats, and the H&HS, and we
got into a very lengthy discussion of the Insolent 60... at the end of
which, he admitted to me that he likes to hire people who like to
build things, on the theory that they make very good software engineers.
I just got off the phone with their HR person. I got the job. :-)
