LED was Re: Re: phil bolger and friends
You can get pretty bright yellow LED's for $1 and white ones for $2 from
places like www.allelectronics.com. (Other colors too. Red are cheapest)
Of course you may need several for a good reading light. And you have to
make your own fixtures. And of course you have to buy resistors, but
they're cheap. They are simple, though I haven't done this for a boat.
(They make great aquarium lights or replacements for bike lights.) I
haven't really thought about masthead lights or running lights. How much
do they cost? How bright do they have to be?

Trailer, truck, and Ag supply places have the
tail light LEDs for less than $20 last time I looked
at them. Red, yellow, or white, and the red ones have
bright or dim to function as a tail/brake lamp IIRC.
They ain't as pretty as Hella but they are cheap...
