Re: protecting epoxy from uv damage
Just to supplement thew foregoing,
Be sure you have finish-sanded (to 180-220 grit before the first coat
of UV oil-based varnish; wet-sand between coats, maybe to 400 for
really good results; spray on the last of 5 or 6 coats, and you'll
really like the looks. You'll find it goes pretty fast on warm sunny
days.

My Cartoppers are bright finished using oil-based marine varnish over
clear epoxy. After five years they were getting tired, so I applied
some more varnish.
Wait a few weeks, 2 weeks probably absolute minimum, after the last
epoxy coat before applying the varnish, paint, whatever, to let the
epoxy fully cure and eliminate compatibility problems. If using
varnish put on lots of coats, probably 4 as a minimum. You don't need
it for the looks (it'll look fabulous after only one coat) but for
the UV.

Cetol which offers a two part approach to wood protection with a
sealer coat followed by semi-gloss or gloss topcoats. For
spars, consider a good quality urathane finish over paint since it
allows quick inspection of glue lines for signs of rot or failure, has
some built in UV protection and is easily sanded and re-

To the best of my knowledge, limited as it may be,epoxy cannot turn
garbage wood into teak:-)

Good luck! Try a little area first and see if the urethane will cure hard.
Many varnishes and other coating won't cure over epoxy. I don't know
specifically about Raka as I use WEST. Go to the WEST web site and you can
read about UV protecting epoxy. Does the Raka web site offer similar
info????

I recently completed my yuloh for use on my yet to be built micro
navagator. I coated it with epoxy because i wanted to get a hang of
this raka epoxy, i knew i was going to beat it up and i built it
from poplar so i did'nt want water to touch it (i'm under the
impression poplar has little rot resistance).
Tonight i was looking through my cans of urathanes, cetol and
varnishes to see what i sould coat it with. I've exnayed the cetol
and leaning towards a marine uv blocking urathane.......suggestions?
Thanks
