Re: [bolger] ok you guys shot down my use of oak......how is the spf
When I ask Bolger about using Western Red Cedar in place of Fir, he gave me
the thumbs up, at least on the Wyo. The key is not using a wood that
splinters easy such as redwood and can take glue well.

Yes SPF is spruce pine fir but the fir is not douglasfir but
miscellaneous true western firs. All are usable especially if you are
going to epoxy them. Pick over the pile and try to get all the same
species.

I guess, the Douglas Fir they
sell 'round here in California,
fresh cut and green, just
trucked in from Oregon, is
not the same Fir found on the
East Coast.

I guess, the Douglas Fir they
sell 'round here in California,
fresh cut and green, just
trucked in from Oregon, is
not the same Fir found on the
East Coast.
