Then there is Cynthia J - a catboat with leeboards.

Hi, Bob,

I'm always interested, but as always, my eyes are always bigger than
my budget! Sigh. I think you are right that a stretched Bobcat would
be a much easier build. Is the Chapelle Camp Skiff the same design
that Stambaugh derived the Redwing Series from?

Hi Dennis, I had thought so to but decided to do one more. Chappelle's
Camp Skiff. I will keep that and my Bobcat. Herreshoff pram, Hawkeye,
inflatable all go.
If you are interested in Spartina I have the plans. Would you like to
look them over? I like Spartina but I suspect a stretched Bobcat would
be much easier.

Hi, Bob, I thought you were done building boats!

With respect to a stretched Bobcat -- it does have its attractions,
of course, there is Spartina!

Hi Dennis, Apparently the answer to your question is no. All the
catboats suggested are of course "like" Bobcat in the same way a Ford
is like a chevy.

Bobcat IS somewhat cramped for two big people and extending the hull
3' would certainly ease that and probably make room for a small
family. As it is there is a lot of plywood left over after building
Bobcat as designed. A Bobcat 2 sheets of plywood long would not cost
much more and of course it would be faster. I would like to see it
done. I think Bobcat is one of the nicest of the small catboats
available. I am going to try "Plyboats" to get the side panels for my
"Camp Cruiser" and I think I'll try "Bobcat" also just for kicks.

If the Catfish size is what interests you, but you want a traditional
centerboard, but sure to check with PCB&F. They did a version with a
normal cockpit in place of the odd camp-cruising deck. It would be
worth checking if it had a centerboard. I don't happen to remember.

He has other catboat options too, if you are looking for a cat rig
and better sailing performance. There are is the Dart dinghy. I think
there was a v-bottom boat that he did for Small Boat Journal that
have very sparce plans (experts only!), but which would have been a
fast boat. Cartopper is a muti-chine shape and probably better
performance than the BobCat. For that matter, so is Gypsy and she had
very good performance.

Whoops, maybe not. Catfish *is* just a shoal keel.

| Looking at the lines, the three boat are definitely of a type.

Not certain as to what comment you refer to, but he did design a boat
meeting that description, called CATFISH BEACHCRUISER.

Cheers, Nels
Catfish Beach Cruiser is essentially a stretched Bobcat, albeit with a
curious deck arrangement. And for that matter, Chebacco could be considered
seven and a half foot stretch of the same hull. And we've all heard how nice
those boats are...
