tight!Call it TinyTim) lashed with a few 4X4s to the main hull for a

We're going to take last years TIMS, which stood for The Infinite
Modular Sharpie and modify it into a schooner. A many masted schooner.
TIMS made it to 96 feet last September, setting the record for longest
ship assembled and sailed in a single day at the same time. She also
sailed at a variety of lengths from 11, 22, 30, 41, 46, and 80 feet.
The longer she got, the stiffer and more stable she became.
Messabouters will bring a mast and sail and we'll easily break the
world's record for number of masts on a schooner. The record is
currently held by the 7 masted Thomas Lawson, a 19th. century ship.
Pics are in the Messabout files and photos section.
The modifications will include taking off the house, adding a rudder
with endplastes, adding a leeboard, and adding two sets of brackets to
each Timbit to recieve the masts. FLoatation will be added to each
unit also.
Peter Lenihan had an excellent idea for the floatation, empty 30
gallon beer kegs, and he kindly volunteered to help empty them.
Masts will be unstayed 2 by 4s from any lumber yard and will simply
slip into the mast partners, which will be sheet metal "stake"
brackets, used by farmers to attach rails to traillers and sold in
Co-op store for a buck. The bottom 26 inches of the mast are left bare
to slide in the brackets.
Sails can be any type, sloop, square, lug, gaff, whatever. And of
course any colour or pattern. Any material is fine too, polytarp,
tyvek, cotton, wool, whatever you want to use. A foot of 4 feet or
less is desirable to allow 2 masts per Timbit.
Mast and sail specs are in the files at the Kingston Messabout eGroup.
Should be quite a sight, an 80, 90 or 100 foot schooner coming down
the lake, with a dozen or more masts flying a rainbow of sails, crewed
by a mob of wanna' be pirates.
