Re: bukheadsand frames are in!.....bottom planking?

Didn't you say you were going to glass below the waterline? If so, why
not use the fir on the outside of the bottom? Or did I miss something?

You're right glass from the waterline down.....i just don't want
that fir to check through.....it's 6oz dynel...i also wanted to make
the bottom finishing easy and that mdo is oh so smooth.

The undersides of my Light Scooner deck are unpainted, uncoated, bare
fir plywood. No exposure to UV, no checking in 4 years of continuous
outdoor storage.

I think either way would work, since you are glassing the hull
exterior anyway. And even if it checks, who is going to see it?

Most of the interior is covered up by the bunk flats and floorboards
except for the stern hold, in which a non-skid surface would be an
advantage. Or even some parquet flooring, or even a bearskin rug:-)

So in that case just use one layer of 1/2" marine fir plywood and be
done with it!

Cheers, Nels.
Fir plywood will check where it is exposed to the weather,
particularly the sun. I should not check where it is "interior" but no
guarantees. Bob Chamberland

Done deal with the frames. They are glued in place and are pretty
damn true.....i came out less than an eigth inch off overall and 3/8
narrower than the plans (must have been from beveling the frames.

I'll fill it some gaps around the logs next and then i'll get the
bottom on, when my sister visits next week.....she does'nt know it
yet but i need more hands.

and the outer in MDO for that oh so smooth finish. I can pick up the
marine fir cheap in my hometown (beaufort, nc) which i'm going to
visit in a week or so.
