Re: smallshelters-Brick Project
On our relatively stock Brick, the bottom seems plenty stiff. It has a
lot of curvature plus two hefty stringers. The sides have noticable
flex. Even though your PD racer will have less bottom curvature, I
suspect if you make the stringers the same way it will be ok. But I
could be wrong. No way would you need 1/2" or more. Even 3/8" is
probably overkill (ours, built stock, is 1/4"). You do want to be able
to pick it up by yourself, don't you? I suppose if you're really
worried, you could space the bottom stringers a little further apart and
then put one down the middle on the inside. Shouldn't get in the way
very much. The Brick as designed is a pretty nice boat.

Greetings All,
Just wanted to update on My "Brick" Project. I have the Hull
almost done, I used the "PDRacer" Coordinates for the Hull Shape, The
1/4" Ply on the bottom sure seems thin. I might laminate 1/4" X 4"
strips of Douglas Fir over the Ply,Then maybe another sheet of 1/4"
ply over that?? This of course will make it heavy. {Too Heavy??} Any
Ideas on this? I know that the "Shoes" Will stiffen it some, Maybe add
"Shoes" on the inside too and skip all the Laminating?? This is my
first Boat. A lot of the wood I have is left over from my UL Airplane
Project, I had to quit that because I am Severely Allergic to Epoxy.
Fibergalss doesn't seem to bother Me though, so that is what I will
use to final coat the boat. I used "Gorrilla" Glue and Gold Deck
Screws to hold everything together.
I had to put the Hull,Transom and Bow together on the Living Room
floor as the Shop is only 7' wide {I'll be working out in the yard
from this point on}.
I am still working on the "Bilge" Keel Idea, Shallow Lakes where
I will be Sailing around here. Maybe make them-2" X 6" X 3'? And
thank You All for your input on the "Twin Bilge Keels" Very helpful
information. You Guys are Greeat!!
I do want to build this Boat to last as the Kids can use it when
I get My next Project done-"Old Shoe" or "Micro". I still need to
Teach Myself How to Sail.
"I know I Can-I know I Can-I know I Can"
Thank You,
