Re: [bolger] Re: navigator update and question for builders.

I am going to try it simple, then go more
complex as need be. I view the motor as
a 'no wind/got to cover a long distance'
tool; and I suspect that the awkward access
to the motor well will not be that much
of a problem.

If I can't find a cheap/worthwhile
used motor, I will be using a yuloh
sculling oar anyway.

Also, I view all boats as not effectively
having 'brakes' like a car anyway. You
need to plan well ahead when wanting to
stop. In a pinch, turn the boat in a circle
instead of ramming into things.

I agree, what is your plan?

Personally, I am very sober about
the possibility of carbon monoxide
seeping through the bulkhead, and
am wary of holes through the
bulkhead that could leak fumes.
After not touching the micro for 2 weeks i'm back on duty. Got the
four sheer clamps on and trimmed, started fitting the deck strigers
and framing fore and aft, figuring out the bin and floatation
chamber framing, and i've been staring at the rubrails debating with
myself on the configuration.........still havn't glassed the bottom.
I mounted the little honda on the transom to make sure there is
ample clearance if i have to trade my 2hp in on something larger in
the future.

Questions are.......

How are you navigator folks controlling engine speed from the pilot
house? Are you diving through the companionway and sprawling over
the aft deck to back your engines down or have you folks considered
a little round screw hatch in the bulkhead so you can reach through
and twist the throttle? I think this is where i'm heading. I'm also
at a loss because the bf2 has no reverse so i have to sprawl over
the deck to swing the head 180 degrees to back down.

Also i'm still wondering about the motor mount board bevel.....why
is it there? the bf2 can be tilted and locked to compensate for
transom angle.....am i missing something?

I'll post pictures come monday after the weekends labor.

Did i mention i have sanded for what i believe to be 4,000 hours.
I've finally figured out the proper way to work with
epoxy......should have learned faster. I'm really paying for being a
glue slob early on.

I pulled the bow out of the garage and test stepped (actually there
is no partner or step in the bow yet) the beast...aka 4" 20 foot
schedule 40 pipe/main mast this morning. I'm already dreaming of a
tabernacle that thing is going to kill me or my dog before it's
over :) I'm going to have to paint that ugly silver phalice, any
suggestions on primers or paints that the gaff jaws won't rub off in
a day's worth of sailing?

Jason, sanding, having fun, drinking beer and going to launch this
tub o' lumber by august 1st or bust.
