Yes :)

You can set the boom-vang up so that it is just slack with the boom on
centreline; as you head downwind an inch or so of slack is taken up by the
changing geometry. It should be possible to set the length once and
thereafter hoist sail to the same position. I've been hoisting and sailing
first, hitching the boom -vang after.
The rig beats and reaches un-vanged; running, the boom vang stops the boom
lifting. With a full-on Navigator cabin I'd aim to have the vang releasable
from inside - there may be times when you want to be able to let the end of
the boom rise to get it out of the water.
