Re: [bolger] Digest Number 2034
The designation of flat-bottomed does not refer to the fore-and-aft
orientation, but rather across-the-beam. Many Bolger boats are indeed
flat-bottomed, including Brick, Teal, Windsprint, and so on.
The presence of *rocker* (that is, a bend that puts the middle down and
the stem and stern up higher) doesn't not disqualify a boat from the label
of "flat-bottomed".
There are essentially three categorizations of monohulls:
1) Round-bottomed
2) Flat-bottomed
3) V-bottomed
As in all categorization systems of complex categories, the boundaries can
get a little fuzzy. But it's important to get the ideas straight.
