Re: [bolger] glass/dynel and epoxy?
I don't really know since I've only used System Three. My bet is that they
are both good. I do like the Gougeon Brothers' book on "Boatbuilding."
When I ordered the System Three "Test Kit," S3 products were slightly
cheaper than West Systems. I was "off-put" by West System's marketing
technique, but I don't remember why.
I like System Three, it works, Kern Hendrix answers questions well -- why
should I change and re-do my learning curve?

Roger, I have been thinking about switching from West System to System three
because of the fact that you can still get a chemical bond if you recoat
within 72 hours. How do the two compare? I have only used West System.

From System Three's "Epoxy Book" (free at
http://www.systemthree.com/m_register.asp) Yes, you do have to register to
get the book. It's in pdf form.
Fiberglassing
(sealer, wet-out & fill coats)
square feet of coverage per gallon
first subsequent
coat coats
4 ounce cloth 150 300
6 ounce cloth 130 250
10 ounce cloth 100 170
Biaxial Tape 32 40
So one and one-half gallons should do
1.5 x 130 x 250/(250 +260) = 96 sq. ft.
If you put on three coats.
That's assuming Raka is not too different from System Three in coverage.

I just cleaned out and inventoried the basement and realized i used
a hair more than a gallon of Raka Resin and a hair more than a half
gallon of hardener! laying the 6 oz dynel sheath......Did i use way
too much or is that about right? I was kinda worried it was'nt
wetting out.....the dynel does'nt go clear like glass so it's tough
to tell. Doh! got to order more....again. 6 gallons and counting.
