Re: [bolger] Re: A fine weekend of schooning / Bolger Messabout in Gloucester
September or October would be better for me. Has
anyone spoken with Susanne about their preferred
dates?

Hopefully by the end of July...
Hey! What happened to the idea of a Bolger Messabout in Gloucester,
MA at the end of the summer? Isn't his birthday around that date?
Is that still brewing or was it just one of those good ideas that
didn't go anywhere...?
Anybody interested on the board?

Howdy!
I am so envious! Just cut the plywood over the weekend to build both
hulls of the Folding Schooner Origami... Masts, booms and gaffs are
almost done now...
I can't wait to have this baby in da water!!!
I'll update my website soon and post the link here...
Where are the pictures of yours? - We want to see her!!! :-)
Where do you sail? How does she handle choppy waters? How fast do
you go downwind? Upwind? Does she point pretty good or is it a dog
upwind? How many crew do you usually have onboard?
I plan on doing most of my sailing on Nantucket sound where it can
get rough from time to time and we're adding "mini-decks" like the
ones on the Light Schooner just to get her a little dryer... I'm not
really concerned with the added weight... Do you think it's a good
idea...?
Thanks

Just got back from 3 days of sailing the folding schooner. totally
stuffed and happy.
I tested the new shallow bottom plate rudderby handing over the helm
to a friend who didnt know any different. He sailed easily all dayso
i assume that it was perfect.
didnt take the helm once, letting others enjoy the thrill of
steering a big boat. We only set the bilge boards at half depthfor
all wind conditions and I'll go and make a new set ofboards that are
14" shorter.
they will be alot easier to stow as well.
one afternoon I took off for 2 hours on a pirate treasure
hunt ,motoring fron island to island looking for clues to a chest of
treasure I had buried that morning. All this with a crew of16 kids
and 2 adults in one schooner. The other parents canoed ahead and
dropped 'cannon ' shot fron behind trees as we passed.
that night we had the quietest camp I've ever been in.
One 2 year old pirate managed to fall asleep on the way back to the
boat 5 minutes after finding the chest
The big shock of the weekend was when my wife announced to one and
all that she finally felt that she was getting her monies worth from
the schooner.
A message to all the maybe boat builders out there. Hurry up and do
it soon as your missing all the fun.
cheers
