anticpate that the general rule that "boats of about the same size
sail at about the same speed" will hold. Still one or the other may
have an advantage depending on the conditions and course.
I was RC for a catboat race Sunday and we had a couple of guys
singlehanding Marshall 18's in 19kts gusting to 25. No one reefed. A
Marshall 22 got line honors. Next weekend I hope to race in an
Atlantic City 24. Perhaps not the fastest cat, but such
accommodations! Not even PCB can get everything in a single design.

Peter -
I should have the answer for you this weekend as I hope to hook up
with Tim Smith, Chebacco owner, off the shoals of Monomoy for a
picnic and boat comparison. I currently have a Marshall 18.
Tim tells me that the Chebacco is much easier to handle than the
Marshall 22 he had. It is quite seaworthy as well and does not
pound in the chop like the catboat will. (We get pretty steep short
waves in the Northeast corner of Nantucket Sound due to the entire
sound building up on a southwest with the deepest past only being
about 20' deep.)
Will report back in a few days.

Someone, somewhere, must have sailed a Chebacco in company with the
usual fiberglass catboats - Marshalls, Hereshoff Americas, etc. I
would be interested in which was faster upwind, downwind, strong
wind light wind.
