Re: coperpoxy/ copper flake for antifouling protection

John,

Thanks for the feedback. I ordered 5lbs. of copper flake this
morning. It's going to be nice skipping the painting phase of the
bottom.

Did you use the low V resin or just the regular stuff? Did you thin
it? what ratio did you mix in? I'm figuring on just mixing it with
my raka stuff till it's on the verge of getting pastey and
slathering it on with a nappy roller...... two coats, less than a
half gallon apiece. I don't see the baby bottom smoothness happening
but it will probly go on better than some antifouling paints i have
used......Can you sand it with out bringing out greying the surface?

I think that color will look real nice on the hull......does it have
any metalic look or just dull red/orange?

Thanks again,
Jason
I did the bottom of my Brick with it and I am going to do my Pelican
with it. I bought the last pound of copper from Raka last year and I
bought some from the people you are buying from. It is about the
best coating I have seen, that includes bottom paint. It mixes
perfectly and gives a bright copper look. If you do scrape the
bottom on rocks, the scrape will turn that old copper green that
plants hate. Nothing sticks to the Brick and the copper color on the
bottom makes a great look. I am going to put it on the House Boat I
am going to make. It even mixes with just about every type of filler
I have used. If you buy the stiff plastic and cover it after you
apply it comes out very bright and shinny.

Hey folks,

been snooping around for antifouling protection and i found this:

http://www.epoxyproducts.com/copper4u.html

I looked at the copperpoxy which is a bit steep for the limited
protection it provides. I'm going to try the copper flakes mixed
into my raka epoxy for the final bottom coat and be done with the
below waterline portions for a while. The copper flake should give
just enough protection for the navigator which will rarely be out
for more than 2 weeks at a time plus live on a trailer for the most
part. Besides with calf deep draft i don't mind wiping the slime off
every now and again. 10 year life.....that will outlast my
ownership.

Has anyone tried this? Tell me quick if it sucks cause i'm going to
order some copper powder tommorrow so i can coat the bottom while
she's still turtle.
