[bolger] Re: WBP okume

Hi Francisco
it seems your plywood is pretty much the same of mine, except of the
size which in my case is 1.53x3.10 m^2 (5'x10').
The stuff is almost identical to marine ply, with no Lloyd stamp or
other certifications. Most probably it's made in France. If you look on
the labels, you should find "CTB-X", which is roughly equivalent to
ACX. I've cut through several panels and haven't find a void up to now.
The price looks ok. I'd say go for it, but look for voids aound the
edges before buying if you can. The external layer are so thin also due
to the finish sanding.
Best, Pippo

Hi, list.

For a start, thanks for your comments -days ago- about wood for mast
making (mast anxiety). I will profit your inputs. Really helpful.

Yesterdey, I bought my first sheet of ply for testing... and I'm
planning (or I'm plynning) to use it in my future Micro. Is a 10mm
thick WBP okume in all the five layers. The size is 4' x 8'2", and is
not "marine grade". I did the boiling test during one hour and didn't
delaminate, but I don't know if that's long enough. Looks pretty good...
my only preoccupation is that only the external layers are one piece,
and they are thin, about 0.5mm.

Tomorrow I will buy 3-4 more sheets, so if somebody has to warning me...
or comment... I think is o.k., but my experience with this stuff is
equal to zero.

Price is about U$S 41 per piece.

Thanks in advance.

Francisco
