Birdwatcher 2
We made an update to our homepage, 424 hours into the construction.
http://homepage.mac.com/rkpayneboats/Birdwatcher2
We were not able to complete as much work as we had hoped this month.
Guess we should have worked more than 74 hours.

Along those lines, I plan, and have good hopes of taking the BW2 to

If you're not bringing a boat or joining in the workshops, it's simply the
price of admission to the Museum ($10.00 Adults; $9.00 geezers over 62;
$5.00 Kids 6-17; Kids under 6 are free). Free parking, BTW.

You bring Lenihan and I'll stand a round of beer; how's THAT for incentive?
And yes, John Welsford is planning on being there (it's really a dead cert;
he's already bought the ticket and the cancellation fee would wipe him
out!). Do bring TW, we'll have you sit on alternate sides and see if John
can tell which side is out of true......

Gee, October 2, 2004 eh!
Maybe I can make it too. Couldn't bring TIMS but mayne my "Twisted
Seagull" if JW is going to show. Just throw a mattress and the skiff
in the back of the truck and head out. It's just a good days drive
from Kiingston. 1000 klicks or so.
We're getting pretty busy at Rust Check in October, but the first
week isn't desperately busy. Could be my last getaway before
Christmas.
Can I bring Peter Lenihan if I promise to keep him on a leash?
Any other Kanukistani's going?

I hope to get in Friday and be around all day Sat and Sun til mid

far from home to justify driving there and back each day so I'll have to
think of something.

Did you get the leak fixed? If so just bring a sleeping bag and foam
and sleep on the boat. I am still trying to get my Potter into shape
and she has far less room than youe Birdwatcher for sleeping. If she
isn't ready I'll just grab a boat at random and throw in the tent.
In response to an earlier question, while it may be true that the best
camping locations go to the earliest to arrive, there always seems to
be room for one more.
I hope this last comment doesn't violate the rules of this Bolger
group, but John Welsford is supposed to be attendance this year.

Ed,
Here's a link to St. Michaels lodgings:
http://hotel-guides.us/maryland/saint-michaels-md-hotels.html.Hotels are
somewhat few in St. Michaels; you might consider nearby Easton
(http://hotel-guides.us/maryland/easton-md-hotels.html).
I believe the Museum might have some limited camping space available (vague
recollections of seeing tents; I mostly look at boats). You might check
with the Museum's Support Service Manager, Robin Newberg, at
rnewberg@.... She's extremely helpful, as well as extremely busy.
Check with her about launching; I believe you'll have to launch at the town
dock, but it's just around the corner.
There's another alternative, which is simply to anchor out on your Chebacco.
It's a gorgeous anchorage during these events. We're thinking of taking our
big boat down while dragging our fleet of small craft behind....

Here's what the Chesapeake Maritime Museum (www.cbmm.org) has to say about
the event:
Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival
Saturday, October 2, 10am-5pm

professional boat builders and enthusiasts bring their skiffs, kayaks, and
canoes. Take part in demonstrations and workshops, or simply chat with the

I can tell you from previous years that it's a getogether that's well worth
traveling to; tons of boats of ALL types, lots of builders and designers
(for example, John Welsford will be coming up from New Zealand to be there
this year and will be giving a workshop). Bring a PFD, and you'll be able
to try out just about any boat you like.

Dick--- You're not alone in your interest in Birdwatcher. I also saw
the article in WB and am very anxious to see one. I have been
looking for a small cruiser that will tow behind a small car (I have
a Ford Escort wagon)and this might be it.
What info do you have on the boat show/mess-about in St. Michael's.

Craig -- Hi! After seeing the article in WB on Birdwatcher, I'm
interested in hearing/learning more about this boat. Please keep us
(just me?) up to date on your escapades and perhaps some pixs on your
awesome website. Will seriously try to come to the St. Michael's
boat show/mess-about this fall if that Birdwatcher is
snooping/messing about about.
