[bolger] Advice to those about to change design-don't!

No, I'm tired, I won't launch into my customary sermon, BUT--

For all you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed
"here's-a-nice-design-let's-change-it" critters out there, bear in mind
that the original designers =also= work to minimise wastage, in
particular using standard sheet and scantling sizes in their designs.
Not just PCB&F, but any designers worth their salt. So, incremental
fiddling leaves you with a flatter wallet, clutching lots of ply
offcuts, because you've thrown away the material advantages the designer
planned in...

Tim & Flying Tadpole (dull-eyed and rat-tailed)
Hi Tim,

It's a very good sermon, don't apologize. For the others, refer to Tim's
#1418 as well as Bennett Scheuer's most eloquent response on Christmas Day
last, #1427. If a little knowledge is dangerous, a little creativity is
dangerouser.

Hear hear Tim!

There are precisely umpty-jillion boat plans in the world. If you like
"something" about Chebacco, but don't like how large it is, or what
have you, then *keep looking*. Look at Atkin or Chapelle or Michalak or
whatever, but it's better to enjoy the process of looking and learning
than it is wrangling with altered plans.

Poor Billy Atkin had the exact same problem in the 20s and 30s --
everyone wanted to change his designs "just a bit". He said: Don't.
Build a different boat.
