Nice photo but here are two tips:
1) post in the files section so that we get a bigger/better view of
your work and
2)put a few rags or bits of carpet between the cinderblocks(bricks)
and your lovely mast! :-)

ends of your masts white--it's traditional and looks good. Have fun.

Aaron--My bible on varnishing is Brightwork by Rebecca Whitman. Briefly, she suggests using disposable foam brushes and multiple coats of Schooner brand varnish with wet sanding in between. where I have followed her instructions, I have produced a lovely, long lasting finish. Where I have cut corners, I have produced an adequate finish which lasted a couple of years. You may want to paint the tips or ends of your masts white--it's traditional and looks good. Have fun.

Subject: [bolger] Micor Mast finishing.....
The micro that I bought came with an unfinished mast. As in, no
laquer/varnish.
I've already started putting the belt sander to it, with 80 grit.
What / How do y'all recomend finishing it.
What type of finish is standard I should say.
I would like it to match the mizanine mast as close as I can.
I don't want to get fancy or anything, but I would like it to last.
First of many questions, I'm sure....
