Re: [bolger] Re: Brick-Leg-O_Mutton Sail ?

Peter,

Seriousness???? Are you sure?

I'm re-reading the Aubrey/Maturin series for the fourth time and note that
grog was only available when off-soundings. Closer to home, the crew drank
"small beer." That would put the tradition back to the 1700s at least since
few of us are off-soundings.

Sun burn, wind burn, dehydration, sociability -- beer is good.

Of course I'm a sinner who enjoys Budweiser. I explain my taste by citing
the contest our fraternity entered in 1953 to win a television set for the
house, a rare and expensive device in those days. The local distributor
offered one to the "person" who collected the most neck labels. Our fifty
some guys collected 310,000 neck labels in the 3 month period. The nearest
competitor was Sigma Nu with 165,000, but they attempted to drink all that
beer, we just collected labels. Yes, we did go on scholastic probation that
semester, but we got to know the local distributor and the managers of the
several warehouses from Danville, IL, westward.

Hi Roger,
Quick, tell me where the "discussion of beer drinking" is taking
place! I think I want to join in as I may have a tale or two to tell
regarding various methods, some non too orthodox and a few others
patents pending :-)
In all seriousness though, I sure as Dickens would like to know
why boating, boatbuilding and just plain taking about boats seems to
go better with beer and when did this"tradition" begin?

Sincerely,

Peter Lenihan,beer-bellyless,as such, but hauling an ever growing
bit of Molson Muscle around............

With apologies to the group...

Speaking with some authority here...there are no Shaping Darts that I know of...Karls, Michaels, Andrews as well as a bunch of others including one child we considered naming Dodge, but alas, no Shaping Darts. And yes, I have a belly.

With all the discussion of beer drinking, I'd say a belly would be mandatory
for compatibility with this group.
