Re: Hey! Who bought that micro down in texas with the balanced lug rig?

Aaron,

it's a boom and a yard. I read somewhere maybe Bolger's 100 small
boat rigs that the boom is under little stress in the balanced lug
rig. So that boom may be OK. That said i have put alot of pressure
on the tack line trying to get a crappy sail to set right.

The best info i have seen on the rigging the lug is here:

Jason
Jay,
No I don't know where the lug came from. I assumed from Tim, who I
bought the boat from.

( my terminology is terrible please bear with me )

The top boom is aluminum.
There was no real bottom boom to speak of when I bought it.
I finished the mast last week and went Mon. and bought a 16 foot peice
of oak hand rail from the local lumber yard. IT's got finger joints
every two feet so I'm not sure how well it's gonna hold up, but for 30
bucks I'll take a chance.

I'm gonna rig it up, the best way that I can. I don't know exactly
how to do it. But by all the photo's I've seen after googlin'
Balanced Lug Rig, it seems that there's no ..ONE right way.
I figure I'll rig it up, take it out, see how it works. Then post up
some pics and see what type of suggestions I get from here.

Soon after I bought the Micro, an old friend of mine GAVE me a 1969
23' Star Class Racing Yacht, on a trailer, with about 8 sails. The
entire boat had been stripped of rigging. What I did is took all the
rigging ( ie, blocks, stops, etc. ) that I needed for the micro,
cleaned up the star class ( which was completely covered in moss/mold)
As soon as I get a title for it, I'm gonna try and sell it on Sailing
Texas.com. In fact I'ld be happy takin' 500$ for it just so I can say
I got the micro for free.
In fact I'ld sell it right now for 500 with no Title. ( gettin' a
title is gonna be tricky, as it hasn't been registered since 1980, and
the previous owner basically gave it away 7 years ago.

ANyway....Next time I get the mast and sail up, I'll post up photos.
The mast came out really good and I'm pretty proud of it.

Do you know where the Lug came from?

What is the real name for he top and bottom boom on a balanced lug rig?
