Re: [bolger] dipping lug and the boom.

I am using white polytarp, for the prototype at least. I curved the edges,
and added darts to get camber in the sail. I will be using velcro,
and string ties, to attach the battens to the sail cloth.

After I see how it works, I may, or may not splurge for 'real'
sewn sails. Half of my reluctance to hire a sail maker comes from
that I don't know one that I trust.
Hey i'm studying how to sew up my my sail (third one now, maybe i'll
get it right this time) and i'm just wondering if the shape for the
dipping, standing and blanced lug are all the same? As much as
bolger raves about the vertues of the dipping lug it would be neat
to go boomless now and again when in the open and the water calm.
I'd like see if it is as good of a pointer as claimed. I've got just
enough side deck to walk....make that clutch and shimmy the yard
around and reset the tack. I will fall in sooner or later at least
the sail will be down :)
Anyone know much about these dipping lugs. Is the cut the same as a
balanced lug?

I'll most likely dart rather than cross cut....i think that's what
you call it.....cause my sewing machine sucks.

thanks,
Jason
