One lesson learnt was about wing masts. If you take off the sails in
a big wind they just go faster and faster. Anybody who puts one on a
ocean sailing boat must have a deathwish.
I started building a new landyacht today out of ply and wood. Very
Bolgeresque. My wife is a bit cheesed with me as I spray painted a
new yacht before lunch, then went out and laid out the spine for a
new design in the afternoon. We have a huge "messabout ' coming in 5
weeks so I'm trying to get a few boats together to sell.

yacht capable of 160kph. The day i finally got her to really fly, i
ran out of salt lake and jumped a causeway, breaking the wing
controlsand a sidestay.

Last week i was heading home and was passed by a 4WD with to sit on
s on the roofrack and what looked like a Gypsy with a little pram
nesting in it on a trailer.
I'm sure it was a gypsy . Am i turning into a weirdo boaty.?
I turned around and tried to catch thembut they wouldnt stop.
probably thought I was a modern highwayman, come to steal the boat.
.last night i was at a party and was introduced to my daughters
teachers husband who was interested in the schooner because.......
his next door neighbour, who was away had just had a set of wooden
boat plans, in a BLUE TUBE delivered .( he was collecting his mail
for the neighbour). this is all getting a bit like a building boom
considering we are 600 kms from water . Now I have to wait till the
guy gets back from holiday before I can find out thhe dirt..
later that night I sat down next to a family friend and discovered
that her father aws the famous Willy Dahmen.
Willy was the man who singlehandedly built up the sport of
landsailing in Australia back in the 1970's. . his last sail ended
in a spectacular crash at world record speeds. Now I have the
opportunity to write to the man.
what a wierd weekend.
Cheers Paul
