Kingston Messabout alternative
Forgive the cross-posting
I know that many are disappointed in the cancellation of the Kingston
Ontario Messabout, especially Bruce Hector, the host. I got thinking
about it and realized that an alternative would be to hold one in
Peterborough Ontario's downtown Little Lake on the same date that
the Kingston Messabout was scheduled (September 10-12).
Little Lake has: a marina with lots of dockage, good ramp, fuel
available (Holiday Inn is next door and has a patio right on the
waterfront); a municipal campground, known as Beavermead Park, with
full facilites, nice beach, shelters OFF SEASON RATES; free community
beach with a wharf.
I've contacted the local antique and classic boat group and they'll
pass the word on to members. There were some very interesting local
owner-built boats at the recent show who may be interested in
attending.
Peterborough is about an hour and a half drive north east of Toronto
(401 and 115)or about 3 hours west of Kingston (401 and 28). All very
good roads to the city.
I'm still checking out options, costs, etc. The easiest possibility
is a simple "show up on Saturday at the beach" but I'm guessing out
of town people would want to stay over Saturday night or even come
for the weekend. A tour of the Canadian Canoe Museum or a cruise
through the Lift Locks are possibilities for weekenders. FYI -
Peterborough is holding a Jazz Festival that weekend a few blocks
north of the lake.
If you're interested in attending, or in getting some update
information, please email me atmariner@....
