Re: Micro Mast Question

Ahhhh

the end cap is a great idea. I put a few thick coats of laquer, but I
think next time I'm in lowes I'll pick up a cap...

Mucha Gracias,

I don't have a photo showing how Peter finished off his mast on
LESTAT, but he did not drill a hole, but instead installed the block
with a SS strap and two screws. He also installed a chafing strip the
same way, only he extended the ends to come back down to the sprit to
also serve as a topping lift so the sprit could support the awning
over the cockpit. This block must lie more or less flat and in
alignment with the top end of the sail track.

He also installed a hardwood cap to the very top of the mast to
protect the endgrain from water absorption and attop that is the
masthead light.

Peter doesn't do things half way:-)

Cheers, Nels
Here's how I did mine..

http://f4.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/cKksQUJynMvnRAF46wxYIuVuzfwqzk_o04DMqsHW_2pog3R5DWSVBS-yBnIdrn23fsVRmGMHaBnbUG5wFdRaHusIoJBkvkQJfyo/A2%27s%20Micro/3.5%20Top%20of%20Mast

Used some rope, to keep the yard from banging against mast.

Post up some pics of your micro....please...

Thanks for everyone's replys. A block with a tail it will be!
I think this is the section that says "masthead block 1 1/16" sheave
diameter slung on a short tail through a hole in the masthead, not a
sheave." I should be so far along. Perhaps I will before too long.
Let us know how it sails. Charles Rouse

Yes - It's the block for the main halyard.
I can't find my key. But i seem to recall a block is up there. If no
one else chimes in by morning i'll dig around for it and give you a
definitive answer

I am finally getting around to finishing a "traditional Micro" and I
must have misplaced the sheet that explains how the Main sail haylard
fits at the top of the mast. Does it go through the mast, is there a
pulley at the top of the mast, etc.? I have the plan and there is
a "3" next to the top of the mast but I have no other information.
The mast is finished but I need to know how to finish the top. Many
thanks in advance.
