And yellow poplar is different from tulip poplar,
which can be nicely used in boatbuilding.
The poplar at the local home store is low in rot resistance, and is
primarily used in inner casings of cabinets, and similar usage.
It's nice wood, but I'd keep it away from the elements.
Different species. Basswood is also known as American Linden. It is a very
soft wood often used in carving.
