Re: Navigator Mizzen boom
What a good idea Derek, thanks very much, neat job. I will look at it
when I can find some spare time.
I have a feeling there are lots of other snags in waiting for the
'House' version, for trailing sheetlets - projecting aft end of house
sides for one.

Our Micro's mizzen sprit boom consistently snagged the lower of the two
mainsail 'sheetlets' when coming about, requiring the helmsman to handle two
sheets and the tiller.
Not having an updated plan sheet showing the revised mizzen I tried
fabricating an 'offset jaw' style sprit boom with tack outhaul. There are a
few pictures temporarily placed in the 'Micro Gaffer' section of Bolger3
photos.
Having had a chance to test it, I'm happy to report that it works without
any problems; both tacking and gybing can now be done without needing to
touch the sheetlets. Bruce, Don, if you are planning on using the LOM
mizzen, I'd heartily recommend the jaw modification.
On my version, the jaw was cold bent round a wooden former from a piece of
stainless barstock. It is supported behind its after face by a hardwood
filler block, and the whole leathered against chafe. A loop of cord slung
through the beeblocks which held the snotter turning eye keeps the whole
setup handy when the outhaul tension is slacked right off.

mainsail 'sheetlets' when coming about, requiring the helmsman to handle two
sheets and the tiller.
