Re: [bolger] mahaogany plywood from china

See if you can get a small piece and do the dishwasher test suggested by
a member of this group. Put it in your dishwasher for about a month
while you run your normal cleaning cycles. I have come to the conclusion
after several unfortunate experiences that there are no good deals on
cheap plywood any more. It is just not worth the grief in lost labor
when it fails.

Dunno about Canada, but the best cheapo plywood we can get in the UK comes from the "Far East". It's hugely better than the South American crap at around the same price, though still with very thin outer veneer and big fat inner veneers. Unlike the South American stuff, there are few, if any repairs to the outer veneer. There are also few voids in the inner veneers.

Same stuff? Who can tell? Here the 1/2" stuff is around 25 pounds a sheet, 1/4" about 10 or 12 pounds. It's OK for boats as long as the edges are well sealed with epoxy and the rest is epoxy coated. Once it's glassed, you'd never be able to tell it from the very expensive stuff. Lasts very well too, if properly maintained.
