Jeff,
Sounds like fun except that I am land locked (Indiana is in the middle of
the United States). Could get to the Atlantic from Great Lakes (Michigan)
via St Lawerence. You would not want me along I am a relative newbie to
sailing (actually last time I did any sailing was in 1976 when I live in
Connecticut)and I am 6'6" and over 250 lbs. Someone a little lighter would
be better suited for the trip but it would be fun to see how many members of
this e-group are along the route and could participate. Make it a relay
race with the boat as the baton.

Michael,
Maggellan Callenge:
Strangely enough I just logged off it,
and, because its affordable, am wondering if
I can get in a leg or two. Perhaps the group could share a boat.
Not such a bad idea, since we are scattered all over.
Actually I was thinking of asking my Dad to come,
he being a seafarer. But more than that,
he's 72yo this yr, and its a great way to spend some real
quality time with the guy before the inevitable, would
that it weren't so.
(Non-romantic translation = One of us would
likely throw the Other overboard after 10 days).
Chuck kindly put a design of mine up on
Duckworks today-if you want to check it out its at
http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/articles/scarper_flo/index.htm
There's a lot to Jim Betts, isnt there!
He has a ton of guts to take this on, and I hope its a go.
It surely flies in the face of the idiotic
budgets reqiured to compete in a "normal"
ocean race!! Good on him!
What are your thoughts on a group boat?
Should really be taking a Microtrawler!!
Cheers
Jeff Gilbert

I have been to that site and have checked out both boats. The GP-16 is a
water going pickup with camper and power cruising options. It looks as if
it would be easy to build and fun for two people for a river cruise. The
So-Du-It is more on the order of an alternate Micro with racing as an
option. Have you checked out Jim Betts Magellan Project round the wrold
race its on the Duckworks Magazine at
http://www.hilconet.com/~dworksmg/index.shtml

So-Du-It (Jim Betts des.) looks like the
offspring
of a marriage betwwen the above 2
boats.
To check it out look down the Databoat Alpha
list
for Jim Betts, 5th designer down.
You may also like his GP-16
Tug-Houseboat,
listed too.
