That is amazing. I guess I calibrated all power boats on my friend's
houseboat. He took it up river to the hydroplane races (Miss Budweiser et.
al.) and while I forget the exact numbers, it was gallons per mile and
refilling the tanks was a major budget item.

Roger Derby asked if there really are motor boats that
get 20+ mpg. The "Meadowlark" is techically a
sailboat, but I have been operating as a power boat
for the last year. (Because I haven't figured out the
junk rig yet.) At six mph, her 10 hp Sabb diesel
burns less than a quart an hour. That exceeds the 20
mpg. It is a sedate pace on the California Delta and
one must pay attention to the tidal currents. But it
is certainly cheap.
