The perennial "Cruising Guide to the Chesapeake"covers the most popular
stops, may be useful if you're heading for a marina for the weekly shower.

There are also several sources for waterproof charts and chart books.

There is also Local Knowledge (hint, hint). The further south you go on the
Eastern Shore the more wilderness you see. Comes with big bigs at certain
times of the year.

You hardly need a book - charts will do. Despite all the nearby
population you can easily find areas that have little if any
developement, especially on the eastern shore. Ed mentioning
Galesville made me remember anchorages nearby where one saw virtually
no sign of "civilization" - and this is the part of the bay that is
closest to Wahington. Shallow draft is essential - if you draw more
than two feet of water you will be kept out most of the best that the
bay has to offer.

There are a number of books out. I've got the Chesapeake cruising guide
or some such thing. There's also Guide to Maryland waters. And I
subscribe to Chesapeake magazine that has some good info as well.

Surprisingly little conoization as i've witnessed. If you want to go on
an exploratory sail, let me know. I'm thinking of leaving the chebacco
in dry sail near Galesville on the western shore to save time in travel.

Since experiencing the CBMM's small boat festival, enjoying the
water, etc. I now wonder if there's a book on cruising/fooling around
on the Chesapeake. Thoughts? Waters seemed wonderful, and road maps
show wonderful shorelines (no doubt condominium-ized to some extent,
but hopefully not yet elbow to elbow).
