Re: Shoreline trailer

Ed, that goldplater's trailer, a goldplater trailer was a beaut. It
was a Triad Trailer. I contacted them and got a price. It would be
beautiful and...the most expensive single item I would purchase for
boating! SO, on to the trail, poking about for bargains.

Will look up various websites mentioned. Champion is a good
trailer? Will look into it and their instructions. Any preferred
Massachusetts trailer makers? Last night downloaded the Michalak
informative description of how-to.

Will also do fast spin through local marinas re: prices of new and
used (if they have them). The Shoreline seems sturdy, has Bearing
Buddies, roller wheel, but no spare. 14" wheels. Has a registered
gross weight including trailer of 2000# but it seems like that might
not be true as it is really sturdy.

replacing the rear bunks with some of the large pads with wing nut
adjusters like we saw at in that gold plater boat & trailor at the
show.

Dick,
Shoreline is a well known name and make a decent product. Which is good,
because there aren't that many trailer manufacturers left. Especially
for the smaller boats.

As far as making & putting on your own bunks . . . it's a 'dirt simple'
task. What exactly to do depends on where the cross-beams are {and how
many}, and if they already have mounting holes drilled. The supports for
the bunks can be attached with 'U' bolts, if necessary. Again, depending
on where and how the roller supports are attached, it may be a case of
simply swapping the roller bars with padded 2x4's.

Contact Champion Trailer for their catalog. {www.championtrailers.com}
While you may find a 'trailer shop' local to you, the catalog will give
you an idea of the arrangement and parts required.

I recently got a new trailer for my Potter P-15 sailboat. Much different
from the rusted-out original, but easily enough 'rearranged' . . . made
my own set of extra aft keel bunks, keel support rollers, etc.

I've just viewed a used Shoreline, 19' long and maybe a foot narrower
than the Chebacco. It's got rollers, not bunks and it'll need bunks.
SNIP
Is this a good trailer mfr? Is converting from rollers to bunks a
'mission impossible' or a piece of cake?
Dick,
Remember that the Chebacco has that full keel so any bunks are more for support and stabilization than load bearing. With mine, I removed the center rollers and bolted in a pressure treat decking board 2 wide. The Chebacco sits nicely on that on the keel, then the bunks just provide lateral support. Personally I'm leaning towards replacing the rear bunks with some of the large pads with wing nut adjusters like we saw at in that gold plater boat & trailor at the show.
