Re: [bolger] Re: Three steps forward, two steps back
I didn't realize that idea was Nietzsche's (I looked up the spelling). At
this rate I'll be trying out for the decathlon.
My son and his wife came over this afternoon and we accomplished major good.
She shocked us. The willowy young lass easily lifted weights I could hardly
budge. By next weekend we should be able to rip out/down the remaining
ceiling and start putting in the replacement.

Roger,
My stomach went lurch when I saw the photo. I feel your pain. I once
came back to my woodshop after an extended Xmas break to discover that
a pipe in the ceiling had burst, and had been making rain inside most
of the shop for two days or so. Worst deluge was right above the area
with the most cast iron tools. Also, just this week, one of my crew
dropped a stick of poplar about 14' down onto the rear seat of my boat
abuilding. This punched an ugly 2" X 3" hole through the beatiful,
hand-picked 1/4" mahogany plywood thwart. I weep. But, I suppose we
have to keep in mind what Nietche (sp?) said... about those things
which don't kill us making us stronger.
Cheers,

Surprisingly enough, very little water made it to the floor. Apparently
just enough came in to melt the plasterboard's attachment to the
rafter/trusses. The builder was a police lieutenant who purportedly didn't
even know how to use a tape measure when he started. The whole thing just
kind of evolved and several quite heavy fluorescent light fixtures were hung
on the drop ceiling framework and/or the plasterboard.
What's horrible/daunting to me is that almost the whole 32' x 32' area must
be emptied to allow the ladders and scaffolding needed to put the ceiling
back some 15' above the floor. Eight foot ceilings are bad enough.
On the plus side, a lot of the junk that will be moved out won't come back
and I'll have a lot more room for boat building.
I do appreciate the sympathy.

I feel your pain, coming from the guy that was run down by his micro
as it tried to escape his basement during a flood.
The worst thing is after you get it all cleaned up it stays wet for
2 more weeks. Hang in there. Maybe you can plan a simpathy card to
the wife and get a few extra boat related parts smuggeled the
roofing budget. i like the breakdown chebacco thing, keep it up.

Never mind Roger, as long as it's three steps forward and only two back, you're making progress.
Frustrating though that you'll have the substantial job of clearing up the mess and making good BEFORE you can get back to what you REALLY want to be doing.
Good luck,
Bill Samson
