I have trailer questions on my mind, because of the issues of preparing
my trailer for my Micro. Much more labor and cost than I had
initially imagined!
As some may remember, I bought a junk ski boat/trailer combo
for $100, sawed up the boat and hauled it to the dump for $75.
New lights and wiring for about $125. New tires and bearings, etc.
$150, [developing cold feet that the tires weren't load rated correct,
and one of the the bearing races & seals didn't fit the hub correctly]
I then bought a new axle, hubs, wheels, tires from www.easternmarine.com
for $400 plus $36 freight.
All in all, my $100 trailer 'deal' cost close to $1,000!
Oh well, at least I am pretty confident in it now.
I was real happy with easternmarine, indeed, their $40
wheel hub kits seem like such a bargain to me that the
old days of struggling to replace bearing races (for me)
will be replaced by simply swapping out the whole hub!
Plus, carrying a hub kit around as a spare.
Questions for Vince. Did you put brakes on your trailer?
How are you planning for 'corrosion control'? Paint?
Where did you buy your trailer parts? Care to share
the cost? Any tips or tricks you learned in the process?
Also worth mentioning, the fat belly of the Micro doesn't
fit well with conventional trailer bunk/guide/rollers schemes.
I improvised a solution, which I am not convinced is the best.

Since I don't have the outboard motor yet, and the fuel and water
tanks are empty, I needed to load on about 800 pounds of weight
at the transom to determine the axle placement. Mary Ann feeds
the turkeys, deer and other critters in our yard, so I bought our
whole winter supply of sunflower seeds and corn in 50 lb. bags
and piled it up in the aft cockpit until I had finished locating the
axles.

Our local landfill weighed my boat and trailer for

Many truck stops have scales that will handle that, for a fee.

Michigan is the most restrictive state (trailer 8' x 40' , overall 60').
Most other states are: trailer 8'6" x 45', overall 65'). This rig does
comply with the Michigan law, so should be no problem
anywhere. I have not weighed the trailer because the only
portable scale available maxed out at 6,000 lbs. I calculate the
trailer with the boat on it will weigh about 9.000 lbs. Tongue
weight will range between 600 lbs.-950 lbs. depending on the
amount of fuel and water in the tanks which are aft of the axles.
