The fellow that did this work also did an article for Duckworks on
glass-bottom viewing stations on boats.

A shadowing box, higher than the waterline, removable but well fixed with a rubberseal to the frame prevents flooding the boat if there is a mishap with the glas/plastic. Divide the weight of the boat with gear and human beeings by the area of the waterline, to get an idea what force the glass and frame have to resist.

I don't see any major problems with this - build a substantial
frame, bed the glass down in a good bedding goo, make sure it
is held in well with solid battens around the edge.

I would use toughened glass rather than plastic - scratching would
be the major problem here.

You probably want to build some sort of box around the window
to keep out the light. Maybe something you can easily remove
to clean the glass.

Hello,
This may or may not be a new one for this group. How do I go about
installing a 12" x 12" glass/plastic veiwing station in the bottom
of a flat bottom skiff that is under construction? What is the best
material for the "window" and best way to install? Or am I crazy?
Many thank yous in advance!

Best Regards,
Steve Gill
