Re: [bolger] Re: Update on Arcebus

When I started out I kept track of costs, but I just stopped doing that after
awhile. I'm doing it for pleasure and don't want to spend time with
bookkeeping. My best guess is that I've forked out $2,500 - $3,000 in materials over
a couple of years. About $1,000 of that is in epoxy and fiberglass. You
don't really notice it that much after the initial purchases since it's so spread
out. When I asked my wife if that sounded about right, she said it's costing
me my marriage (hope she's kidding).

Anyone see the boat shaped like an amusement park fish that is to
cross both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, built and piloted by 71
year old Seiko Nakajima? He had crossed the Atlantic previously in a
small boat, but this time his boat is shaped like a bug eyed red fish.

Thanks -- I'll have lee boards on both sides. I toyed with the idea of a
single one, but I think Arcebus may heel over a little to much. Besides, I think
I'm going to need them as ballest. I added extra weight to them.

She look great, Greg. Can't wait to see her on Lake Minnetonka.

Much prettier than Michalak's Jewelbox. I love the fold down ramp,
excellent detail work.

I liked the part where you wanted to build a Jewelbox but disguised as
another boat. Reminds me of an economy car I saw on the web, that had
a sports car painted on the side.

Hi Greg,
a great job you are doing there. And I enjoyed your amusing comments
during earlier family involvement. I wish I could get my wife to 'hold
the hull on it's side' to take photos!

Hi Greg,

Very informative and entertaining website! Thanks for sharing.

I haven't had a chance to look through it all. Are you planning to
use two leeboards or just one?

Looking forward to the camping photos, as I am sure you are too:-)

Cheers, Nels
I read the Michalak, Bolger, and Boat_camping list-serves fairly regularly
and appreciate the advice you guys have given me in the past. I'm working on a
birdwatcher-type boat of my own design. Hoped to get her launched this year,
but didn't quite make it. Here is a link to a 2004 update page on my website
if anyone wants to check her out. A website is a great way to keep a scrapbook
(if you can take the time to keep it up -- I was obsessively focused on
making as much progress on the boat as I could this summer, thinking I would get
her launched). There are some good website deals out there, it only costs me
$1.99 a month at Bananic. Next year...it always seems to be next year..I'm
going to be posting camp-cruising pictures. My update is at:

Thanks,

Greg Lindberg
